{"id":48539,"date":"2019-06-22T12:28:14","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T16:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=48539"},"modified":"2019-06-22T12:28:14","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T16:28:14","slug":"farewell-to-you-hour-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/farewell-to-you-hour-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Farewell to You (Hour 4)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Molasses eyes, vertiginous depths, tender in gaze, opened to me,<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">abated my fear, born inside.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Velvet hands of strength smoothed my tears; you spoke of hope and held me close.<br \/>\n<\/span>Distance called, left me cold, until heaven claimed you, and the earth kept you.<br \/>\nScarring my heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Day breaks, the southern orb of light.<br \/>\n<\/span>Sent to a new world. Red dirt, blades of emerald, mountains and valleys,<br \/>\nEgypt out my window, the Sub down the road from where I slept.<br \/>\nFaith our life, integrity our choice.<br \/>\nRelationships made, honor and excellence our oath.<br \/>\nThe creed of our breath, our heartbeat, lived to the hilt till that world just a memory.<br \/>\nFamily you were. Love you, I did. Love you, I do.<br \/>\nBut too different was I for you.<br \/>\nMy face hidden in the shadows, slapped cold with rejection as you lived on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">On butterfly wings I flew, from roots to you.<br \/>\n<\/span>Creations waiting, new lives budding.<br \/>\nHow much I loved you. How much I still do.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">Did you know the battles I waged and lost for you?<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Did I fail you?<br \/>\n<\/span>Close my eyes, and feel the loss of the hundred smiles, the thousand tears,<br \/>\nthe adventures of wilderness and trails.<br \/>\nNight time songs and hugs forever gone.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">Grew wings, you did, and moved on. My hand and smile waving you on.<br \/>\n<\/span>But I still miss you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Turned the corner, graduating from war.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">New hope, completely whole, till you.<br \/>\n<\/span>Draining the poison of you from my veins,<br \/>\nCan\u2019t bleed fast enough, years move too slow.<br \/>\nRaped my heart, sardonic laughter in your eye.<br \/>\nSadistic, sociopathic revelry in your lies<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">tore at the scars in my heart.<br \/>\n<\/span>I wait for hell to claim you, and the earth to keep you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Sharp, cold steel, cut my body new.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Surgical hands, deft and soft, heal what is broken.<br \/>\n<\/span>God gifted hands, take back what was stolen<br \/>\nAnd let me mend in the warmth of compression.<br \/>\nQuickly, without delay. And life will renew.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Memories I see. They do not fade.<br \/>\n<span class=\"s1\">Moons pass, suns rise, too many lunars and solars have gone by.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">I see your face. Though you see not mine, I love you.<br \/>\n<\/span>If apology is needed, forgive me.<br \/>\nI could not be perfect. I could not be more. I could not be less.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Oh molasses eyes, visit my sleep, hold my heart.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Honor bound friends, I forget you not.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Butterflies of creation, the jewels of my night sky.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Poison purged, I breathe again.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Surgeon hands, I wait for your elixir.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">If all fails and goes awry,<br \/>\n<\/span>I\u2019ve known you.
