The lights flash
\nDull red flares of a dying sun
\nOne last power surge before it all shuts down
\nAcid tears flow, eroding structures of the past,
\nEtching rivulets in cracked, graffiti-stained concrete
\nCold desolation under blackened clouds<\/p>\n

These are after-images when I blink my eyes
\nThe insomniac hallucinations at 5 a.m.
\nThese are visions…<\/p>\n

Abandoned freeways littered with rusty metal skeletons
\nBroken storefront windows howl through jagged glass teeth
\nFiber optic cables snake their way through cracked blacktop
\nElectric lines coiled on shattered sidewalk like cobras, waiting to strike
\nWaiting on a dead grid
\nA decaying city
\nA dying sun<\/p>\n

A newspaper, yellowed with age, dances through the streets
\nA solo post-apocalyptic tango until the end of time
\nIt catches a thermal and rises, climbs to disappear into smoggy black<\/p>\n

These are after-images when I blink my eyes
\nThese are the fozen stares of abandoned tech plants
\nThese are documents in briefcases of war profiteers
\nThese are the corroded stainless steel memories of a not-so-distant place and time
\nThese the shadows of a world over-civilized
\nThese are the bombs dropped on my subconscious
\nThese are visions, arrested in early morning word form,
