Hottest hot of Summer Days
\nAs upon my breast, my lover lays
\nBlanket, barely thick enough to shield the heat
\nAbove the sand that coats our feet
\nFar from water’s edge<\/p>\n
Swirling currents of air rise
\nTo hide encroaching surf
\nBlinding whiteness, thundering turf
\nCold wind blowing by our heads<\/p>\n
Perceive I now, rushing horses
\nNature’s forces
\nBellowing “Move, move now”
\nArching back and lover’s hips
\nHeavy breathing meets my lips.<\/p>\n
But, wait!<\/p>\n
What gurgling forth comes from my mouth?
\nWhat pain racks through my chest?
\nSpewing salted water through my teeth
\nSuddenly squinting from beneath
\nBroad shoulders,
\nShock of gray<\/p>\n
To my dismay,
\nIt’s not the beach,
\nIt’s not my Love,
\nTis but a medic perched above.<\/p>\n
