The pen is heavy in my hand,<\/p>\n
its shadow is a monster on the wall.<\/p>\n
I finish another letter<\/p>\n
and set it next to the weeping willow tree.<\/p>\n
It disappears when I reopen my eyes.<\/p>\n
Rain polka dots my hair<\/p>\n
and the sky and I cry together.<\/p>\n

My hand is tugged and I glance down<\/p>\n
at a red haired child,<\/p>\n
eyes the color of the ocean.<\/p>\n
I hold her face in my hands<\/p>\n
as if I were holding my heart.<\/p>\n
Words appear on her forehead.<\/p>\n
Forgive –<\/p>\n
The rain washes away the second word<\/p>\n
before I can read it.<\/p>\n
She is gone when I start to speak.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The pen is cold in my hand.<\/p>\n
This letter is for her.<\/p>\n
I leave the letter where she last stood,<\/p>\n
holding out my arms.<\/p>\n
