{"id":50090,"date":"2019-06-22T14:41:31","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T18:41:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=50090"},"modified":"2019-06-22T14:41:31","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T18:41:31","slug":"that-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/that-night\/","title":{"rendered":"That Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"comment-content\">\n<p>THAT NIGHT<\/p>\n<p>I remember the harsh words<br \/>\nThe fever pitch screaming<br \/>\nThe need to flee and find a place<br \/>\nOf peace.<\/p>\n<p>I drove away<br \/>\nNot knowing where to go<br \/>\nJust following the painted lines on the asphalt<br \/>\nReflecting in the moonlight.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe<br \/>\nReflected in the tears in my eyes.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t really know.<br \/>\nDarkness plays tricks with your vision.<\/p>\n<p>In a pull off by the river<br \/>\nHidden from view in the black of night<br \/>\nAway from prying eyes<br \/>\nI found my peace.<\/p>\n<p>But the peace was not in that place.<br \/>\nNot in the tears, the car,<br \/>\nThe cover of night.<br \/>\nMy peace was in you.<\/p>\n<p>I drove fiercely back,<br \/>\nFollowing those same reflective lines,<br \/>\nThe asphalt flying by like a jet stream.<br \/>\nHome to our door.<\/p>\n<p>I remember the love that steered my heart home,<br \/>\nThe frantic need to throw open the door<br \/>\nAnd run madly into your arms.<br \/>\nTo say I was sorry, and that you were everything.<\/p>\n<p>But the door was locked.<br \/>\nYour heart was locked.<br \/>\nAnd the key would never again<br \/>\nBe mine to find.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THAT NIGHT I remember the harsh words The fever pitch screaming The need to flee and find a place Of peace.
