{"id":50309,"date":"2019-06-22T15:12:53","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T19:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=50309"},"modified":"2019-06-22T18:21:31","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T22:21:31","slug":"age-is-only-a-number-until-the-wrong-number-age","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/age-is-only-a-number-until-the-wrong-number-age\/","title":{"rendered":"Age is only a number until the wrong number age"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u2018Sixty is the new forty!\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00a0<strong>&#8211; Doctors office fashion magazine headline, 2019<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I just turned sixty.<br \/>\nYears of age<br \/>\nnot degrees on a sextant<br \/>\nthough in my rudderless state<\/p>\n<p>charting a one-eighty<br \/>\nthrough late middle-age<br \/>\ntrying to find a job<br \/>\nbefitting my experience<br \/>\nmultiple talents<br \/>\nability to move, mold, lead<br \/>\nothers to successful<br \/>\noutcomes<\/p>\n<p>Sixty is the new forty what?<br \/>\nForty winks?<br \/>\nForty lashes?<br \/>\nForty days and forty nights?<\/p>\n<p>Dubious are those that<br \/>\nwould employ me<br \/>\nthat my thinking, attitudes<br \/>\nskill-sets would have me<br \/>\nout-of-synch with<br \/>\nyounger-than-me-peers<\/p>\n<p>Though I am appreciative to<br \/>\nthose that simply<br \/>\nask the question<br \/>\nI am equally as perturbed at<br \/>\nthose who vacillate<\/p>\n<p>implying Paleozoic values<br \/>\nintoning as perverse mantra<br \/>\nmillennials and youthful as<br \/>\nthough a bottle of<br \/>\nfive-buck-chuck offers<br \/>\nsimilar value to differentiation<br \/>\nby vintage, what it goes<br \/>\nbest with<\/p>\n<p>There is no dust on<br \/>\nthis bottle<br \/>\nbut there will be in my wake<br \/>\nas I head for the door with<br \/>\nan I&#8217;ll-stop-you-right-there<br \/>\n&#8216;thanks, but no thanks.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2013 Mark L.
