Worn tool belt on the floor<\/p>\n
Buckets with brushes rest<\/p>\n
On paint splattered seats<\/p>\n

After he died they came<\/p>\n
To my kitchen table<\/p>\n
Each remembering their<\/p>\n
Time as his shotgun rider<\/p>\n
To unload, to work, to pack-up<\/p>\n
Always talking about the game<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Autumn setting up at deer camp<\/p>\n
Chores completed with precision<\/p>\n
They sat at his table to share<\/p>\n
Beer, smoke, tell tall tales<\/p>\n
Of youth, women, near-misses<\/p>\n
Laughter connecting them<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Decades passed while<\/p>\n
He and the old truck kept on<\/p>\n
Shotgun riders came and went<\/p>\n
Now belonging to myths retold<\/p>\n
At my kitchen table they sit<\/p>\n
Next to his chair and weep<\/p>\n
