I heard a noise that startled me<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And went outside, weapon in hand<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I saw fiery eyes and flashing teeth<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Coming at me<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ready to fire, I waited<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Something cautioned me not to use the gun<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The creature became more tangible<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The closer it got to me<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And still, I waited<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I heard a low growl, and aimed<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Suddenly, she became visible in the light<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

of a the street lamp<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

beneath which I stood;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Eyes begging, she lay down at my feet<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

and I knew that I couldn’t pull the trigger<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I kneeled at her side and stroked her head;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We became best friends forever…<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
