{"id":52364,"date":"2019-06-22T19:48:56","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T23:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=52364"},"modified":"2019-06-22T19:48:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T23:48:56","slug":"id-rather-see-you-cry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/id-rather-see-you-cry\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;d Rather See You Cry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s so easy to hide it,<br \/>\nbehind screens, or hands, or walls.<br \/>\nTo tuck your pain away where it can&#8217;t<br \/>\nmake things worse.\u00a0 Or better.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve heard voices break and connections go dead,<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve witnessed messages composed, deleted, and composed again,<br \/>\nThen still left unsent.<br \/>\nOr reduced to a single word.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had doors slammed and locked in my face,<br \/>\nbacks turned to me, faces twisted away.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve conversed through bathroom doors,<br \/>\nshields of hair and pulled up knees, comforters that failed to comfort.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve watched faces seal the sorrow in,<br \/>\nseen it bitten it off with tightened lips,<br \/>\nbeheld it smothered out by defenses I can&#8217;t image,<br \/>\nIn eyes deep as the well of souls.<\/p>\n<p>And I have hidden behind layers of my own.<br \/>\nVeils woven of dark humor, over walls built of analysis,<br \/>\nAround pain and fear and need I would burden no one else with.<br \/>\nYet I expected trust.<\/p>\n<p>Tears and trust are only easy for children.<br \/>\nFor us they must be earned, and shared.<br \/>\nThey cannot be taken, or stolen, or forced,<br \/>\nAnd they can be so easily lost.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d rather hold clenched hands and shaking shoulders,<br \/>\nhear sobbed imprecations and wailed confessions,<br \/>\nI&#8217;d rather let sorrow soak my shirt and pain pierce my heart.<br \/>\nI&#8217;d rather suffer together than hide separately, and suffer still.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s so easy to hide it, behind screens, or hands, or walls.
