The photos<br \/>\nthat night, in your parent\u2019s<br \/>\nbasement \u2013 the photos<br \/>\non THE DAY \u2013 pink<\/p>\n<p>and burgundy.<br \/>\nYour long, blonde locks;<br \/>\nyour sister\u2019s long, blonde locks \u2013<br \/>\n80\u2019s hair, where everyone<\/p>\n<p>had long, softly curled locks.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t do it!<br \/>\nDays before the wedding,<br \/>\nbefore the play-list of your<br \/>\nfavourite songs, before the food<\/p>\n<p>tables lined with pot-luck<br \/>\nfavourites<br \/>\nbefore the first<br \/>\ndance\u2026<\/p>\n<p>don\u2019t let that beady-eyed<br \/>\nhairdresser shear your<br \/>\nlonger than shoulder-length<br \/>\nhair to just above your ear \u2013<\/p>\n<p>don\u2019t let that nasty-toothed<br \/>\nhairdresser put your silky<br \/>\nauburn locks in<br \/>\nlittle orange rollers,<\/p>\n<p>permed to a<br \/>\ntightness<br \/>\nforever captured<br \/>\non polaroid \u2013<\/p>\n<p>that belies<br \/>\nyour spirit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Cristy, Sitting at the Hairdressers, 1984 ___________________________________________ Don\u2019t do it!
