(Original poem) The Gift, by Ed Ringer, from Mature Living\/June 2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ocean has a job to do,<\/p>\n

Pushing toward its goal.<\/p>\n

It moves at God’s direction<\/p>\n

To wash my mind and soul.<\/p>\n

The sand that sweeps between my toes,<\/p>\n

The roaring in my ears–<\/p>\n

The simple message from my God<\/p>\n

That erases all my fears.<\/p>\n

Each wave that rolls upon the shore<\/p>\n

Rolls out with parts of me.<\/p>\n

It slowly cleanses to my core<\/p>\n

All of life’s impurity.<\/p>\n

Foolish man, O foolish man,<\/p>\n

I seldom heed the call<\/p>\n

To just give up my problems<\/p>\n

To the One who solves them all.<\/p>\n

I must come back; I must come back<\/p>\n

Each day to walk its shore<\/p>\n

To take advantage of this gift<\/p>\n

To love the Giver more.<\/p>\n

The green tree has a job to do,<\/p>\n

Important for our health.<\/p>\n

It was taught by God above<\/p>\n

To fix our air as wealth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The breeze that flows upon my brow<\/p>\n

Full of oxygen I need,<\/p>\n

Is given off from his green trees<\/p>\n

For breath, for life, indeed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And just as we are partners<\/p>\n

In this game of life,<\/p>\n

We also help the trees<\/p>\n

Exhaling wasted blight.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The trees need carbon dioxide<\/p>\n

To keep their system strong,<\/p>\n

So God devised the plan<\/p>\n

To work together, long.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Foolish man, O foolish man,<\/p>\n

Could never have devised<\/p>\n

A plan so unbelievable<\/p>\n

In God’s thoughts, very wise.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I must take care; I must take care<\/p>\n

Of earth, and all He made,<\/p>\n

For He made everything with care<\/p>\n
