36 CORN ROAD\u00a0 (PART 4) \u00a0THE REUNION<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It was the best time I can remember<\/p>\n
Family gathered in one place<\/p>\n
Nothing fancy or pretentious<\/p>\n
Just a field, the sun and love all around us.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The hay wagon was full from edge to edge<\/p>\n
Foods so numerous stomachs wouldn\u2019t growl for weeks<\/p>\n
Even Aunt Imogene\u2019s freshly sliced tomatoes would attract<\/p>\n
The picky kids with the \u201cno veggies on my plate\u201d policy.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Why is it that as a kid, we didn\u2019t mind having to make a trek<\/p>\n
To the outhouse when duty, or doody called?<\/p>\n
They had a three-seater complete with a smaller hole for us youngsters.<\/p>\n
I can remember going with some of the aunties and I\u2019d listen to the gossip<\/p>\n
While we were all perched over our wooden depositories\u2026haha!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And the cousins, Mike and Traci, Pam and Ronnie, Peggy, and the whole Dye clan<\/p>\n
We played for hours, talked and talked, walked the woods, the creeks, the hills.<\/p>\n
We walked up to the house on the hill and when we came back down, inertia would<\/p>\n
Get the best of our legs.\u00a0 It\u2019s like we were flying.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It was time to clean up.\u00a0 Get ready to head home.\u00a0 But not before we listened for the<\/p>\n
Whippoorwills\u2026a bird we never seemed to hear at home.\u00a0 The horses were coming in<\/p>\n
From the pasture.\u00a0 You could hear their hooves galloping through the stream.\u00a0 Their force<\/p>\n
Seemed to shake the earth beneath us.\u00a0 IT WAS MAGICAL.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The only thing better than being there is being able to hold tight to these memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
