Even if you speak with many learned words,<\/span><\/p>\n but know not the land.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You are just a homeless noise maker.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Perhaps you know the secrets of the future,<\/span><\/p>\n Or understand the mysteries of science. <\/span><\/p>\n You may know the hymns of man’s religions;<\/span><\/p>\n but if you know not the land;<\/span><\/p>\n you are short of knowing anything.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n You may give all that you have,<\/span><\/p>\n but if you give for your own self <\/span><\/p>\n and you know not to give to the land. <\/span><\/p>\n You give for nothing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The land is a patient place, <\/span><\/p>\n The land is a kind retreat. <\/span><\/p>\n It does not envy anything, <\/span><\/p>\n it does not boast of itself,<\/span><\/p>\n it is not proud.<\/span> \u00a0<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n It does not dishonor others,<\/span><\/p>\n is not self-seeking,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n is not even angered, <\/span><\/p>\n it keeps no record of wrongs.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Land does not know there are evils.<\/p>\n But it knows you.\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n It always protects, <\/span><\/p>\n always inspires trust, <\/span><\/p>\n always instills hope, <\/span><\/p>\n always perseveres for its own.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The land never fails. <\/span><\/p>\n But where there are people,<\/span><\/p>\n They will fail.<\/span><\/p>\n Where there is human pride,<\/span><\/p>\n there will be a return to earth learned humility.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n We only know in part\u2014<\/p>\n but the land knows us in full.<\/p>\n There are these\u2014 three:<\/p>\n the sea, the sky, and the land,<\/p>\n but the most giving of these is the land.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u201cThe land knows you, even when you are lost.\u201d Even if you speak with many learned words, but know not the land.\u00a0 \u00a0 You are just a homeless noise maker.
