Dear Democracy<\/p>\n
It’s been awhile since anyone – except for Colbert – has said so,
\nbut you are missed.<\/p>\n
You have so many well wishers, but
\nsome of them have the wrong visiting hours.
\nOr, are sitting in attendance for someone who claims to
\nspeak on your behalf and in bald attempt
\nat harming your good name
\nto our allies.<\/p>\n
I won’t say I wish things could be
\nas they were;
\nwe both know
\nthe electoral college is an unnecessary holdover
\nand the doctor says our votes are strong
\nwithout this procedural shunt.<\/p>\n
Please know that, after your you’re back on your feet,
\nyou may want to take things slowly, but, again, the doctor says
\nyou’re strong, stronger than you know,
\nand your three branches will, once again, work in accordance,
\nnot defiance of each other and their constituents.<\/p>\n
Know, too, that your absence makes our hearts fonder,
\nand that we know to deserve you is to earn you.<\/p>\n
Let us see you rise again, and
\nall of us will flourish.<\/p>\n
