{"id":56404,"date":"2019-06-23T04:27:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-23T08:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=56404"},"modified":"2019-06-23T04:27:16","modified_gmt":"2019-06-23T08:27:16","slug":"break-that-heart-my-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/break-that-heart-my-friend\/","title":{"rendered":"Break That Heart My Friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<ol>\n<li>\nBreak it,<br \/>\nBreak that heart my friend<br \/>\nAnd save two souls at the end<br \/>\nBreak it because you are human<br \/>\nNot that one is man and the other &#8211; woman<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Strike it with the stupidity of truth<br \/>\nBreak it with pure love and soft tact<br \/>\nDon\u2019t let hate touch it,<br \/>\nIt will poison this medicine, with<br \/>\nthat solitary spice of bitterness<br \/>\nDo it with care and yet every part be intact<br \/>\nBreak it in the morning or when the sun is shining, that is in the noon or when the moon is singing \u2013 this cut may never be timely.<br \/>\nIt could be slow, it could be quick.<br \/>\nBreak it in silence or with words<br \/>\nfor there may be no language the heart cannot know<br \/>\nnor sign it cannot perceive.<br \/>\nYou know there are times the world is noisy, the streets and the gardens<br \/>\nand the heart will hear nothing; the heart will hear nothing and the heart will learn nothing<br \/>\nand yet the painful medicine awaits it<br \/>\nknow this!! No one likes stupidity,<br \/>\nstupidity breaks the heart<br \/>\nyet everyone is a heartbreaker or has been a heartbreaker, as a baby or maybe a granny<br \/>\nDo it with hope and faith, not fear and despair<br \/>\nIt can be on a Monday, Friday or Sunday<br \/>\nIt could be a sacred act, it needs no sacred day<br \/>\nThis secular art, a spectacle for everyday<\/p>\n<p>Break it with water<br \/>\nThan break it with wine<br \/>\nYes, break it with lowly loyal cassava<br \/>\nThan with grilled chicken spines<\/p>\n<p>Break it because it had to<br \/>\nNot because you want to<br \/>\nA heart is no toy<br \/>\nBreak it, for though there may be chemistry<br \/>\nOxygen and nitrogen compel no synergy<br \/>\nBreak it not as a habit<br \/>\nThough Calvary\u2019s cross was a gambit<br \/>\nthe lion became the lamb<br \/>\nthe wounded was the eternal healer<br \/>\nTake it not to the mountains nor slip it to the valley<br \/>\nBreak it on plain ground, let it on a straight path<br \/>\nLest it comes down crashing and it\u2019s not known how to mend it<br \/>\nBreak it in weakness<br \/>\nBreak it on the fence and then claim innocence<br \/>\nYes on the fence<br \/>\nIt\u2019s then its choice if it falls left or right<br \/>\nBreak it though you are sorry<br \/>\nFree it, but not for money<br \/>\nAnd this dreaded act<br \/>\nMay be a healing art<\/p>\n<p>No! No!
