this deep and wicked loves<\/em><\/p>\n

(inspired by phrased found in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T. S. Eliot.\u00a0 These phrases will be in italics in the new poem)<\/p>\n

we fell into this love<\/p>\n

deep and wicked<\/p>\n

piled high with sharp-sided facets<\/p>\n

we chose not to feel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

let us go, you and I<\/em><\/p>\n

to those places we long to be<\/p>\n

and hide our intentions<\/p>\n

when we\u00a0meet the faces that you meet,<\/em><\/p>\n

for shame of wagging tongues and fingers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

do I dare disturb the universe,<\/em><\/p>\n

with my wicked love<\/p>\n

for your beautiful face?<\/p>\n

and how should I presume<\/em><\/p>\n

that your youth and beauty<\/p>\n

could ever make space for<\/p>\n

my dusty ways, when it\u00a0malingers<\/em>.<\/p>\n

you gaze upon me,<\/p>\n

awe-filled,<\/p>\n

but I am no prophet;<\/em><\/p>\n

yet I see all kinds of trouble<\/p>\n

if\u00a0some talk of you and me<\/em><\/p>\n

lands in the wrong ears.<\/p>\n

if we lose everything…<\/p>\n

your beauty…<\/p>\n

would it have been worthwhile<\/em><\/p>\n

to live this love at such a cost?<\/p>\n

in these days without you,<\/p>\n

I grow old<\/em><\/p>\n

in these dark days,<\/p>\n

I have heard the Mermaids singing<\/em><\/p>\n

but\u00a0I don’t think they sing for me;”<\/em><\/p>\n

they see your face and fall in love with you –<\/p>\n

like I have.<\/p>\n

For me,<\/p>\n

I will close my eyes<\/p>\n

to dream of our lives together –<\/p>\n

till human voices wake us.<\/em><\/p>\n
