So young was my mom, I never asked why.<\/p>\n
My grandpa made jewelry of coral and turquois<\/p>\n
I modeled them without a care, I hadn’t noticed boys!<\/p>\n

Then to Colorado,<\/p>\n
the place that I call home<\/p>\n
I’ve lived there and left there<\/p>\n
but always returned from wherever we’d roam.<\/p>\n

On to Oklahoma for bible school they said<\/p>\n
Sisters, work, and twisters<\/p>\n
and a boyfriend,<\/p>\n
Graduation in my head<\/p>\n

It seems I’ve skipped some pieces<\/p>\n
of my childhood so fast<\/p>\n
The wonder years and innocence,<\/p>\n
they just never last.<\/p>\n

Legos and Barbie’s, and Tonka trucks, it’s true,<\/p>\n
were some of my favorite playthings,<\/p>\n
Books ranked high up there too<\/p>\n
but my child, the poem is over<\/p>\n
those toys, now belong to you!<\/p>\n
