{"id":61707,"date":"2020-06-27T09:31:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T13:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=61707"},"modified":"2020-06-28T17:55:31","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T21:55:31","slug":"hour-1-not-that-plath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/hour-1-not-that-plath\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 1, Not That Plath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not That Plath<\/p>\n<p>A lesser poet of married name<br \/>\nand borrowed fame,<br \/>\nher glorious, polished words<br \/>\nare filtered through the sieve<br \/>\nof my own leaky mind.<br \/>\nI scratch and claw them forth,<br \/>\nno elegant method here,<br \/>\nseeping from the paper<br \/>\nlike the speckling<br \/>\nof tiny red wounds<br \/>\nscraped from itching skin<br \/>\ntoo hard and fast<br \/>\nby splintered nails,<br \/>\nnervously gnawed ragged.<\/p>\n<p>She, the cold goddess,<br \/>\nencased in the untouchable,<br \/>\nmartyred, marble layering<br \/>\nof an early and tragic death,<br \/>\nsealed her children away<br \/>\nfrom the deadly slumber<br \/>\nwith paper and an evening meal,<br \/>\naway from the gaping maw<br \/>\nin which she placed her head.<\/p>\n<p>I, far past an age she never reached,<br \/>\ntrudge my stumbling feet,<br \/>\nrub blurred and aging eyes,<br \/>\nshiver through the beginning chill<br \/>\nof each waking day,<br \/>\nand shuffle toward a warmth she could not find,<br \/>\nnot even within an open oven&#8217;s door.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not That Plath A lesser poet of married name and borrowed fame, her glorious, polished words are filtered through the sieve of my own leaky mind.
