{"id":61731,"date":"2020-06-27T09:48:55","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T13:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=61731"},"modified":"2020-06-27T09:48:55","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T13:48:55","slug":"mind-the-children-for-plath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/mind-the-children-for-plath\/","title":{"rendered":"Mind the Children  (For Plath)"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>I do not know her.\r\nNot in the sense \r\n  \u201cdoes anyone really know another person,\u201d\r\nBut in the sense\r\n  \u201cshe lived a tormented life\u201d\r\n  \u201cshe was genius\u201d\r\n  \u201cshe eviscerated her soul, and turned it into poetry\u201d\r\n  \u201cshe was narcissistic\u201d\r\n  \u201cshe was severely depressed\u201d\r\n  \u201cshe tried to kill herself before\u201d\r\nNo, I do not know her.\r\nMy heart attempts to envelop her memory.\r\nI know she still resonates \r\nIn a timely and timeless bond\r\nshared by lost poets.\r\nAnd myself.\r\n\r\nSeverely depressed, in the bleak and long winter,\r\nshe took her life.\r\nWe all know this. \r\nWe all have heard\r\n  of her demons\r\n  her struggles\r\n  her glories\r\n  her failings\r\nShe wrote them for the whole world to see.\r\n\r\nYet, before she took her life,\r\n  she attended a dinner party\r\n  readied her children for sleep.\r\n  left food in their room for them.\r\n  left the name of their doctor \r\n   and other information\r\n  she thought would be needed.\r\n \r\nYet, before she took her life,\r\n before sealing the kitchen windows\r\n   and door\r\n  before turning on the gas\r\n  before neatly placing a folded dish towel in the oven,\r\n   (on which to lay her cheek)\r\n  before sticking her head in the oven\r\n  \u201cas far as it could possibly go\u201d\r\nShe took care of her children.\r\n\r\nLeaving her coat at her friend\u2019s house\r\n  after she and the children went there for dinner\r\n Not to have them come and stop her - no!\r\nBut to come the next day, to mind the children.\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I do not know her.
