Beginning<\/p>\n
Today is my new day, a me day,
\na starting over renewal to improve
\nmyself, remake my internal image
\nfrom the outside in, inside out.<\/p>\n
After a sprinting 4 or 5 mile ride
\non my bedroom bike, I\u2019ll shower,
\nslather coconut-scented conditioner
\non my long hair, leave it pinned up
\nwhile I give myself a facial, slices
\nof cucumber for my eyes, reclining
\nin a tv-less room.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ll spend the day in a bathing suit
\nthough the forecast is for all-day rain.
\nMy face scrubbed clean, I\u2019ll read \u2013
\nan old best-seller cover to cover,
\nand I\u2019ll flip through a delicious stack
\nof friends\u2019 poetry books and read
\nrandom selections, savoring images
\nand metaphors I wish I\u2019d written myself.<\/p>\n
In between, I\u2019ll write poetry of course.
\nAn entire day to empty my head of
\nreminders to make appointments and
\nphone calls, emails to send, cards
\nto pen, laundry to do \u2013 but I won\u2019t do
\nany of that today.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a me day. I\u2019ll give myself a pedicure,
\npolish with a new glow-in-the-dark purple
\nso I can see my summer toes when sleep
\ndefeats my need for it. I\u2019ll paint my nails
\nwith pictures on each one, summer scenes
\nat the beach, a sailboat, lighthouse, ocean.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ll drink coffee all day, stay up all night
\nand not worry that caffeine is the culprit.
\nMaybe I\u2019ll raid my emergency stash
\nof dark chocolates, imbibe with just one
\nglass of wine. Perhaps two if I need to.<\/p>\n
Today, I\u2019ll cater to me, purge out the old
\ndoubts and fears that I can\u2019t do something
\nanything, begin again fresh, fill my head
\nwith glimmering new-year\u2019s-new possibilities.
\nSo tomorrow, tell me, what can I do for you?<\/p>\n
