In a paradise of dreaming fields,
\nwalking the inner path of righteous purpose,
\npores open along the mother\u2019s young, incubating body,
\nskin fearlessly drinking the living warmth of the sun\u2019s rays.<\/p>\n

Protecting the child, the idea, the seed of the future
\nswathed in white, rose-petaled linen.
\nIn the silence of her steps that barely
\ndisturb the dust of this sterile road,
\nmemories of their atrocities are not far behind.<\/p>\n

When the holy house on the hill comes into view
\nshe checks over her shoulder,
\nfor the shouts and the cries of the innocent,
\nthe bombs and the wails of the dying still echo—
\nall the horrors of the world persist.
\nThe soul of humanity at risk of being lost,
\nsevered by a fear-hunger feeding upon itself,
\nthe world at war but the child in her arms still sleeps.<\/p>\n

The abyss is insurmountable, measureless
\na yawning vacancy of indifference swallowing all,
\neverything dances momentarily upon its lips.
\nNothing is safe, only delayed in its ingestion.<\/p>\n

She sets the child down on the edge,
\ncarves its name into the earthen flesh of human consciousness.
\nSave this dream blossoming upon the graves of war!
\nKnowing the cost, knowing the risk,
\nshe steps forward knowing that all
\nmight change for the sake of belief—
\nFREEDOM.<\/p>\n

White roses dissipate,
\nan ethereal fire escapes the darkness.<\/p>\n
