{"id":63484,"date":"2020-06-27T11:13:24","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=63484"},"modified":"2020-06-27T11:13:24","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:13:24","slug":"poem-3-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/poem-3-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Light streaked cross my room<br \/>\nAlighting the dust<br \/>\nLanding on my bread and dancing<br \/>\nOn my water.<\/p>\n<p>Mother ran brush through my hair<br \/>\nPreased my wrinkles out<br \/>\nWith the heavy cast iron.<\/p>\n<p>The sound of children shouts soundtracked my days.<br \/>\nTheir snores tickled my ears.<br \/>\nI can remember the touch of mother&#8217;s hand through my curls.<br \/>\nStaring at the crack in logs.  Silencing my dancing musings.<\/p>\n<p>One day I went to find the bread soaked in its rays.<br \/>\nI found a body on the floor.  My mother no more.  Just a body.<\/p>\n<p>In my twenties the dust still danced.  Across my room<br \/>\nWaiting for a man to come.<br \/>\nI had much idle time then.<\/p>\n<p>I could not read.  <\/p>\n<p>I sewed streaks like sun across my blankets amd waited.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually the sun still streaked.  But I did not feel a warm burn.
