\nWe\u2019ll pretend you\u2019re a famous artist
\nand I a concert pianist. You\u2019ll make
\nme a painting, maybe a la Picasso,
\nI\u2019ll play you a passage from Schubert,
\nboth these things mauve or blue.
\nLater, we\u2019ll have our garden tea,
\nwith cake. We won\u2019t make a scene,
\nwe promise. We\u2019ll breathe in slowly
\nand try not to crumple our faces and
\nskirts, taking care to leave the table
\ncloth unruffled, cups and plates clean,
\nnapkins unsmudged. We\u2019ll slow
\ndown, down, past the bed to the
\nground, past the hour of leavetaking,
\nafter they have turned off the lights,
