{"id":63777,"date":"2020-06-27T11:36:59","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=63777"},"modified":"2020-06-27T11:36:59","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T15:36:59","slug":"the-way-of-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/the-way-of-children\/","title":{"rendered":"The Way of Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Baby comes on storkish wing,<\/p>\n<p>Tiny, helpless, lovely thing.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, he grows a bit;<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s clothes no longer fit.<\/p>\n<p>Before you know, he\u2019s pulling up,<\/p>\n<p>And drinking milk now from a cup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Little children grow so fast.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Childhood isn\u2019t meant to last.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Before you blink, the future\u2019s past.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then one day he\u2019s walking, talking \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly has a lot to say.<\/p>\n<p>Before you notice, he\u2019s in school,<\/p>\n<p>Thinking he\u2019s grown up and cool.<\/p>\n<p>Then middle school, and high school, too.<\/p>\n<p>Has ideas of what he\u2019d like to do.<\/p>\n<p>One day you wake and he\u2019s a grad,<\/p>\n<p>And you\u2019re barely used to being a dad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Little children grow so fast.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Childhood isn\u2019t meant to last.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Before you blink, the future\u2019s past.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s not a way to stop them growing,<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s supposed to be that way, I\u2019m knowing.<\/p>\n<p>So take the time when they are young,<\/p>\n<p>Before all the childish songs are sung.<\/p>\n<p>Children are quickly growing things.<\/p>\n<p>First, give them roots.
