{"id":64320,"date":"2020-06-27T12:59:36","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T16:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=64320"},"modified":"2020-07-23T22:42:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-24T02:42:03","slug":"hey-mom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/hey-mom\/","title":{"rendered":"Hey, Mom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, Mom, Here&#8217;s the latest happy news,<\/p>\n<p>Andre &#8212; your first great-grandchild &#8212; is getting married<\/p>\n<p>he was just 12 when you ran out of time with us.<\/p>\n<p>The whole world has this Covid-19 to worry about<\/p>\n<p>but I know what you want to hear:<\/p>\n<p>the glories and the struggles of your dearest ones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your parish is struggling, as are most around the world.<\/p>\n<p>You and Fr. Tom must be helping behind the scenes<\/p>\n<p>as Fr. Ratar has been doing more than seems possible<\/p>\n<p>for two parishes now!\u00a0 \u00a0The priest shortage is showing.<\/p>\n<p>The younger generation continues to take church &#8212; and God &#8212; for granted.<\/p>\n<p>And now the older generation is quarantined at home with the Covid-19 virus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your home for those years of building the family is still in the family.<\/p>\n<p>Your grand-son, Joe, and his kids live there, and recently gave it a fresh coat of paint<\/p>\n<p>light blue in the front room, 1st paint experience for 21-year-old Joey, and Amanda;<\/p>\n<p>Lesi, supervising, and paid for by big Joe&#8217;s wallet, thickened by overly over time.<\/p>\n<p>New sweets outside, too; white siding, black trim, greenery under the front window<\/p>\n<p>Their biggest struggles are employment and money &#8212; remind you of the past?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your sister Rose, and cousin Katie, are still here; 90 yr-old matriarchs of the family<\/p>\n<p>Your God-son, Rob, has his Mom living with him, and she asks everyone who calls<\/p>\n<p>to take her home.\u00a0 \u00a0Her boys aren&#8217;t willing to let go.\u00a0 They know she wants <strong><em>home<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>to you, and Jesus, and all the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Aunt Katie still drives to the store once a week; babysits a dog for a recovering friend<\/p>\n<p>since she outlived all her beloved pets.\u00a0 She prays a lot, and the world needs it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We kids of yours are all doing whatever we can &#8211; some great stuff, some rough stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Claudia&#8217;s been struggling, feeling unloved in the midst of those who love imperfectly.<\/p>\n<p>John and Dan doing OK.\u00a0 Bill&#8217;s been in the hospital twice this year and it&#8217;s only June.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s fixing the world in ways that make you proud, but it takes so much body and soul.<\/p>\n<p>Jim is getting angry, this Covid-19 virus and world insecurity is hardest on him I think.<\/p>\n<p>Linci&#8217;s marching to her own drum- at the front of the protest line- protecting, helping.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I miss you.\u00a0 \u00a0I look forward to seeing you again, someday.<\/p>\n<p>with Love from your firstborn, and most fortunate daughter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, Mom, Here&#8217;s the latest happy news, Andre &#8212; your first great-grandchild &#8212; is getting married he was just 12 when you ran out of time with us.
