A Pebble in His Pocket<\/p>\n
The poet Dean Tweets a picture daily,
\nhis pebble of the day,
\nsome imprinted with fossils,
\none is like a dragon\u2019s egg,
\nthe other the devil\u2019s eye.
\nI wonder if he takes them home, in his pocket
\nor under his oxter and I remember
\nthe otter rubbing his river sleek fur
\nwith a rock in each paw, giving himself
\nan early morning massage. Later he floated
\non his back and jungled his rocks for fun.
\nIn Winter he will tuck them into his empty cheeks
\nto stave off hunger, he might keep
\nthe same rock for all his life,
