{"id":65002,"date":"2020-06-27T12:54:24","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T16:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=65002"},"modified":"2020-06-29T12:24:24","modified_gmt":"2020-06-29T16:24:24","slug":"airing-the-husband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/airing-the-husband\/","title":{"rendered":"Airing the Husband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Airing the Husband<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My mother aired her laundry.<\/p>\n<p>I air my husband.<\/p>\n<p>He sits in the dark,<\/p>\n<p>grumbles, gets<\/p>\n<p>dank and musty.<\/p>\n<p>Face transforms into<\/p>\n<p>old bark and burls.<\/p>\n<p>Lichen-covered, moss<\/p>\n<p>begins to grow<\/p>\n<p>on his north side.<\/p>\n<p>He schleps up the stairs.<\/p>\n<p>Watches the news,<\/p>\n<p>yells at TV people.<\/p>\n<p>At times, he and the lawn mower<\/p>\n<p>disappear to make noise,<\/p>\n<p>cut things down.<\/p>\n<p>He comes home<\/p>\n<p>tired and dusty.<\/p>\n<p>I lead him out the door<\/p>\n<p>into the light,<\/p>\n<p>into the car.<\/p>\n<p>Short trips to see<\/p>\n<p>the sky, other distant people.<\/p>\n<p>Warm breezes blow<\/p>\n<p>through the mildewed mood.<\/p>\n<p>The lines smooth,<\/p>\n<p>crust slowly disappears,<\/p>\n<p>voice mellows.<\/p>\n<p>For a while,<\/p>\n<p>he smells like sunshine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Airing the Husband &nbsp; My mother aired her laundry.
