The cold? The lack of light?<\/p>\n<p>Here in Mayo, I&#8217;m to three plants in our front room.<\/p>\n<p>Late June and they&#8217;re lush with velvet leaves and<\/p>\n<p>tiny yellow cyathia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Aldi, tell me, did you know your Christmas poinsettias<\/p>\n<p>keep going&#8230;and going&#8230;.and going.<\/p>\n<p>Some days I forget to water. Am down to watering once<\/p>\n<p>weekly.<\/p>\n<p>Dried out soil, airy light pot quickly dampened<\/p>\n<p>and BOO! They bounce back.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s are full, lush, upon the windowsill.<\/p>\n<p>The one from the Christmas before has shed its leaves,<\/p>\n<p>re-bloomed its yellow berries and scarlet leaves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cats have abandoned the fireside,<\/p>\n<p>late June log burning,<\/p>\n<p>tucked themselves deep within the duvet.<\/p>\n<p>Hubby&#8217;s mashing ginger nuts, slicing out<\/p>\n<p>one at a time from the pack stack.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, he&#8217;ll nap.<\/p>\n<p>Eyes too heavy to follow the print of his book.<\/p>\n<p>Sated with food, fire, now words,<\/p>\n<p>he&#8217;ll putt-putt a gentle snore while the<\/p>\n<p>fire temperature guage reaches vertical<\/p>\n<p>the flames hum and gyrate through the logs.<\/p>\n<p>Summer firesides.<\/p>\n<p>Soothe the soul.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My poinsettia has made it through two Christmases now heading for a third.
