It is not unlike me,<\/p>\n

I often do not see but the rippling<\/p>\n
of half truths and dreams.<\/p>\n
Words that, once uttered,<\/p>\n
drift downstream to be swallowed<\/p>\n
by trout.<\/p>\n
This is not new to me,<\/p>\n
but feeling it this way,<\/p>\n
in this life,<\/p>\n
is a bejeweled treat.<\/p>\n
Once I was meek.<\/p>\n
I was beaten by<\/p>\n
furrowed brows,<\/p>\n
and bellowing clouds,<\/p>\n
and for a time,<\/p>\n
I cowered.<\/p>\n
This new drift,<\/p>\n
the sun rippled sand and stone,<\/p>\n
and the prickled feeling<\/p>\n
of a spine;<\/p>\n
this distance between<\/p>\n
you, and me,<\/p>\n
this is a twist.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0strength of current,<\/p>\n
and good weather,<\/p>\n
and the drift of words<\/p>\n
downstream,<\/p>\n
by God,<\/p>\n
I will rise up out of the water,<\/p>\n
one day,<\/p>\n
and leave you<\/p>\n
to catch up with<\/p>\n
your own<\/p>\n
