Oh, there are ups and downs in parenting!<\/p>\n
Each son and daughter gave me pride and tears<\/p>\n
Pride that swelled my heart and livened my step<\/p>\n
When I see some strength that grew from us — me?<\/p>\n
Tears against self — failing to do it right<\/p>\n
Did I not discipline? love? teach enough?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The girls demanded all bedrooms clean<\/p>\n
Conscientious — often, but not always.<\/p>\n
Sons refused to “perpetrate” brand name clothes<\/p>\n
competed to see who’d have the first car<\/p>\n
Earned money by mowing and shoveling<\/p>\n
Oh, but when they drank whatever they drank<\/p>\n
broken arm!\u00a0 burned building! hard lessons learned!<\/p>\n
All turned out well, but oh the road was rough.<\/p>\n
