Betwixt the dark and daylight hours<\/p>\n
the raven calls me from my sleep.<\/p>\n
His cry a sharp, demanding caw<\/p>\n
to raise me from slumber deep.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What is it he is wanting now<\/p>\n
that draws him to my windowpane?<\/p>\n
Is he a harbinger of doom<\/p>\n
that brings him here from his domain?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, you the coal black messenger<\/p>\n
of prophecy and sudden change,<\/p>\n
pray tell me what you\u2019ve come to say –<\/p>\n
what omen bring you – dire or sage?\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I feel a quickening in my flesh –<\/p>\n
what is this sense that I\u2019ve naught known?<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Ere I be driven from my mind,<\/p>\n
oh, spirit bird, I must be shown.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The black beast cocks his head aside<\/p>\n
and in a tone both sharp and clear,<\/p>\n
his dispatch issues so arcane,<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re called to now become a seer.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cA seer?\u201d \u00a0say I, \u201cThat cannot be<\/p>\n
I have no mystic gifts to share.\u201d<\/p>\n
And yet, within my telltale heart<\/p>\n
I know \u2018tis now my cross to bear.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I ask, \u201cHow can I trust myself<\/p>\n
to guide another on their way?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Raven looks me in the eye,<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll always know the words to say.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
With that he turns and takes his leave,<\/p>\n
his shape a specter as he soars.<\/p>\n
I hear his final fervent call,<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd you shall see me nevermore.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
