{"id":67543,"date":"2020-06-27T15:55:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T19:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=67543"},"modified":"2020-06-27T15:55:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T19:55:19","slug":"2020-hour-7-fistfight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/2020-hour-7-fistfight\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Hour #7:  Fistfight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2020 Hour #7:\u00a0 Fistfight<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Outside my window, a flag flies at the top of a building<\/p>\n<p>And it plays a violent game of chicken with the wind.<\/p>\n<p>When a breeze turns down my street<\/p>\n<p>It transforms, shedding its innocence and churning into a reckless teenager<\/p>\n<p>Testing boundaries against all in its midst.<\/p>\n<p>So this flag takes a particular hit;<\/p>\n<p>The wind comes right up to it, gets in its face,<\/p>\n<p>And dares it to back down.<\/p>\n<p><em>Get out of my f*%$n way<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But the flag won\u2019t cower<\/p>\n<p>Instead, against all odds, it fights,<\/p>\n<p>Extending a punch from the edges of its stretched fabric<\/p>\n<p>Winding back, then releasing all its energy in defiance<\/p>\n<p>Right punch, left punch, sometimes felled<\/p>\n<p>A mass of fabric looped around itself sent back to its corner<\/p>\n<p>Then, at the moment of certain defeat<\/p>\n<p>It rises<\/p>\n<p>And unfurls itself with such fury that the wind,<\/p>\n<p>In disbelief and shame<\/p>\n<p>Retreats.<\/p>\n<p>But the flag, flying high from the victory<\/p>\n<p>Remains vigilant<\/p>\n<p>As another wind approaches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2020 Hour #7:\u00a0 Fistfight &nbsp; Outside my window, a flag flies at the top of a building And it plays a violent game of chicken with the wind.
