{"id":67813,"date":"2020-06-27T17:03:51","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T21:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=67813"},"modified":"2020-06-27T17:03:51","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T21:03:51","slug":"beautiful-and-the-innocents-poem-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/beautiful-and-the-innocents-poem-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Beautiful and the Innocents &#8211; Poem #8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hear you rustling through the trees hunting a safe place<\/p>\n<p>What once felt serenely secure, you must now guard.<\/p>\n<p>Protect the young ones and keep innocence alive and well<\/p>\n<p>Last year was my first to meet you and your lovely family<\/p>\n<p>Winter came, and I wondered if you survived.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never been the &#8216;hunted.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Watching you care for your brood, I realize<\/p>\n<p>how blessed I&#8217;ve been.<\/p>\n<p>Four walls and a roof to keep the wolves away, unlike you<\/p>\n<p>Moving your little boy and the twins,<\/p>\n<p>along with your older daughter\u00a0and her offspring,<\/p>\n<p>from place to place under trees and behind sheds.<\/p>\n<p>Foraging for food where you could find it.<\/p>\n<p>I cheered for your survival\u00a0each time I saw the<\/p>\n<p>scars on your back. I knew the attacker fared<\/p>\n<p>worse than you. It brought joy to me<\/p>\n<p>when you accepted food I wanted to share. So,<\/p>\n<p>Winter came and I prayed you&#8217;d make it.<\/p>\n<p>Spring came, many didn&#8217;t make it. I couldn&#8217;t go<\/p>\n<p>look for you, again I prayed.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u00a0Summer came and so you returned<\/p>\n<p>with two new babies,\u00a0precious,<\/p>\n<p>spotted babies, you let me see.<\/p>\n<p>This week your son returned with three<\/p>\n<p>velvet-spiked pals to show off.<\/p>\n<p>Handsome yearlings, for certain, will want<\/p>\n<p>to meet his sisters and once again,<\/p>\n<p>I will hear you rustling through the trees<\/p>\n<p>hunting a safe place to<\/p>\n<p>Protect the young ones and keep innocence alive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hear you rustling through the trees hunting a safe place What once felt serenely secure, you must now guard.
