{"id":68625,"date":"2020-06-27T18:01:13","date_gmt":"2020-06-27T22:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=68625"},"modified":"2020-06-27T18:01:13","modified_gmt":"2020-06-27T22:01:13","slug":"daddy-dearest-brandy-goodman-poem-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/daddy-dearest-brandy-goodman-poem-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Daddy Dearest (Brandy Goodman Poem #10)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><u>Daddy Dearest (Brandy Goodman Poem #10)<\/u><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mom said that he was great<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While he was around,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But when they split up<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He was nowhere to be found.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He\u2019d come and go when it pleased him<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And lied any other time<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>His priority wasn\u2019t us,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He had a new family to find.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In walked another man,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She wanted us to have a father,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But when it comes down to it,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She really shouldn\u2019t have bothered.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He was working all the time<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Out on the road<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And when he was home<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mostly he\u2019d just explode.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Old Daddy Dearest<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Made promises he\u2019d rarely keep<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And new Daddy Dearest<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Beat Momma down at our feet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There were several better men<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Orbiting our life<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But she didn\u2019t want to be,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Anyone else\u2019s cause of strife.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As the years passed his temper increased<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And she thought of getting us away.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But anywhere we went<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He\u2019d find us in less than a day.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He\u2019d show up and cause trouble<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At times the police were called,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But she wouldn\u2019t let them take him<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She was caught between love and hate walls.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He drove everyone out of her life<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And continued to beat her down.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>After a while it became easier<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Because no one came around.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She stuck with him so long<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>All her friends and family opted out<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And we began to hate him<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Of that there is no doubt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Of all the men she could have picked,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She chose to pick the worst.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But at the start he pretended to be good<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And she was in love with him at first.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Today it all still goes on<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And she\u2019s practically wasting away.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She sits around numbly<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Praying today is her last day.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daddy Dearest (Brandy Goodman Poem #10)\u00a0 Mom said that he was great While he was around, But when they split up He was nowhere to be found.
