The blank canvas beckons<\/p>\n
but fear holds me back.<\/p>\n
Can I do this?<\/p>\n

Am I good enough?<\/p>\n
Who will even like, who will want what I\u2019ve made?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My inner muse responds,<\/p>\n
\u2018Be still, listen to your heart.<\/p>\n
It will never betray you.<\/p>\n
Create what calls to you.\u2019<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Still with trepidation I approach –<\/p>\n
never sure what will emerge.<\/p>\n
I have something in mind \u2013<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
an idea,<\/p>\n
a concept only.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What colours do I need?<\/p>\n
I choose Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue.<\/p>\n
Now, what brushes and tools to produce the right marks?<\/p>\n
Bristle or synthetic \u00a0– I select both and yes, that palette knife too.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then it begins.<\/p>\n
The process of drawing out images hidden in the canvas –<\/p>\n
of telling a story in paint when words just won\u2019t do.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Like a sculptor discovering his subject buried deep inside a piece of alabaster –<\/p>\n
it\u2019s how every artist works<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Time seems to expand as the process continues.<\/p>\n
The work begins to take shape,<\/p>\n
I\u2019m focused and attentive to each stroke.<\/p>\n
Throughout I feel nudges to stop, to step back, take it in, make adjustments.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then the moment arrives when I know it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n
Solar plexus fills with a sensation I can\u2019t put into words –<\/p>\n
it\u2019s the signal to stop.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
From fear to finishing<\/p>\n

The medium may be words, music, or images.<\/p>\n
Each one of us like the Starship Enterprise – on a voyage of discovery.<\/p>\n
We go where no one has gone before<\/p>\n
