{"id":70402,"date":"2020-06-27T20:19:36","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T00:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=70402"},"modified":"2020-06-27T20:19:36","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T00:19:36","slug":"shatter-brandy-goodman-poem-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/shatter-brandy-goodman-poem-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Shatter (Brandy Goodman Poem #12)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><u><b>Shatter (Brandy Goodman Poem #12)<\/b><\/u><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I am emotionally stunted<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Though most people don&#8217;t see.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It&#8217;s hard for me to get close<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Even with a guarantee.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>My heart wants to let people in<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But my brain puts on the break <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Because in one life<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There&#8217;s only so much I can take.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>My heart has always been tender<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It was so easily hurt<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>That I had to build a wall<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And learn to stay alert.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I couldn&#8217;t take in more hurt<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I couldn&#8217;t take in all the pain<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>So I vowed to never<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Be vulnerable again.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>But that has made it hard<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>For me to be a wife or friend<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>It&#8217;s hard to be a sister, a daughter or a mother<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I can&#8217;t seem to let them in.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The pain that I&#8217;ve endured in the past<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Still haunts me today<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>So if I opened up<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>From pain I&#8217;d never get away.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>So I stay behind the wall<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Every year building it higher<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>One day the wall will shatter<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>And I&#8217;ll be suffocated by the smoke and fire.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shatter (Brandy Goodman Poem #12) I am emotionally stunted Though most people don&#8217;t see.
