If we had flawless crystal balls
\nthere’d be no misery making decisions.<\/p>\n
But the best in augury cracks, leaving us,
\n(if observation of daily news<\/p>\n
is any oracle,) merely wagers,
\namusements, for our gods.<\/p>\n
They can’t predict with greater
\ncertainty than you or I<\/p>\n
what random, free willed zig
\nwe\u2019ll zag, or bluff we’ll bluff.<\/p>\n
So I amuse myself imagining
\na pantheon with wads of dollar bills<\/p>\n
in their immortal fists
\nshouting, \u201cBuy that Chevy!\u201d<\/p>\n
Or \u201cKiss her! Kiss her!\u201d
\nOr \u201cPull the trigger, damn it! I\u2019m down a hundred!\u201d<\/p>\n
While here on solid ground we stand
\nin befuddled agony,<\/p>\n
every card we pull
\nleaving us more bewildered,<\/p>\n
praying to those who seemingly only know
