{"id":71466,"date":"2020-06-27T21:03:05","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T01:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=71466"},"modified":"2020-07-25T12:29:56","modified_gmt":"2020-07-25T16:29:56","slug":"traveler-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/traveler-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Traveler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u2018And then it was time to start uphill toward another morning and another home.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have never walked uphill toward morning<br \/>\nmorning, to me is always on the downhill<br \/>\nthe easy coast homeward after taking<br \/>\nfull advantage of the solace of nighttime<\/p>\n<p>Heading for home, from the darkness<br \/>\nsun on a new day\u2019s start as another fades<br \/>\neven a bad night heading to another day<br \/>\ncannot dim what passes for reclamation <\/p>\n<p>I am not Saul on the road to Damascus<br \/>\nthere is no conversion, and while I claim<br \/>\nepiphany it is what I experience every time<br \/>\nI walk the night away like it was an old friend<\/p>\n<p>Which it certainly can be claimed to be.<br \/>\nI am a friend of the night, no fear in me in<br \/>\nwhat lies in the darkness; I live in the light<br \/>\nfrolic in the darkness, letting my soul loose<\/p>\n<p>Around campfires, I was the one always<br \/>\nrolling his eyes at what passed for macabre &#8211;<br \/>\ntales told breathlessly, anxious young souls<br \/>\nwanting more \u2013 \u201cAnd then? And then?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And as I start on the downward swing home<br \/>\ntailwind, momentum, gravity \u2013 take your pick \u2013<br \/>\npushing me onward it is home I always see there<br \/>\njust in front of me, at the bottom of whatever hill<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2013 Mark L.
