{"id":72500,"date":"2020-06-27T23:48:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T03:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=72500"},"modified":"2020-06-27T23:48:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T03:48:00","slug":"to-my-mystery-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/to-my-mystery-girl\/","title":{"rendered":"To My Mystery Girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To the girl that couldn&#8217;t wait to get introduced to my family.<br \/>\nDo you realize that you left before that happened but,<br \/>\nJust in time for me to find a brother in depression,<br \/>\nA sister in heartbreak, a father in abandonment<br \/>\nAnd a mother in loneliness.<br \/>\nSo did you know that you could put a spin on the term family?<br \/>\nOr was it just the right time wrong guy? <\/p>\n<p>Did it make sense that I would try to make a move on your best friend?<br \/>\nBut let&#8217;s paint your friend&#8217;s picture with my words.<br \/>\nSo maybe you can see her picture clearer.<br \/>\nWhen you realize that she said I flirted with her, not to her.<br \/>\nKnow that this dance with the devil you befriended on the first day of high school.<br \/>\nWas to the sound of her erotic words and took place on my phone screen.<br \/>\nSo I kept all this from you because I knew if we had a falling out you wouldn&#8217;t have someone to go cry to.<br \/>\nSo I kept the skeletons in the closest,<br \/>\nBecause you couldn&#8217;t stand tall without her as your backbone.<br \/>\nI couldn&#8217;t let your best friend break your heart.<br \/>\nSo I let her let you break mine so she could heal your cracked. <\/p>\n<p>Does it hurt you knowing that when I had you my words hadn&#8217;t developed,<br \/>\nSo I would use lines out of movies,<br \/>\nWant to create couple goals like bloopers,<br \/>\nGive you love like scenes where the director had to shout action once,<br \/>\nNo cut scenes, no retakes.<br \/>\nJust you and me.<br \/>\nCheesy I know.<br \/>\nBut do you realize that I tried to top all of your ex-boyfriends?<br \/>\nHeard your cries when you were with them,<br \/>\nAnd promised to give you more nights were your pillow went to bed drier,<br \/>\nAnd your eyes only cried because you were holding back too much joy.<br \/>\nI wanted to cut through all your layers and go through your insecurities like the slices on your favorite pizza.<br \/>\nBurn the doubts of a future with me.<br \/>\nIntroduce you to the movie that was and still could be us.<br \/>\nAnd maybe you too could see that the sun is also a star. <\/p>\n<p>So to the girl that chose my friend over me but did it behind my back.<br \/>\nI knew all along, what I didn&#8217;t do was fight.<br \/>\nBecause if you were worth it, you wouldn&#8217;t have had to choose between him and me.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t fight because he was family and you were merely a guest in our lives clinging to WhatsApp calls<br \/>\nAnd the village walks.<br \/>\nSo to the girl that let communications die out,<br \/>\nI hope you&#8217;re dying to talk to me, so I get a chance to tell you.<br \/>\nTell you that I wasn&#8217;t hurt, nor was I angry.<br \/>\nI just expected better from you,<br \/>\nYou told me girls matured faster than boys.<br \/>\nSo tell me, why were the roles reversed,<br \/>\nWhen it came to you and me. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To the girl that couldn&#8217;t wait to get introduced to my family.
