My favorite ride
\nFrom inside
\nAn aluminum bird
\nCutting across the sky
\nI know the every contour
\nAs the wheat trickles out
\nTo the wrinkles that presage
\nThe rise of the Rockies
\nA brown expanse
\nVirtually nothingness
\nBefore the thunderous front
\nHeaves up
\nStanding watch over a tundra plane
\nThe forest blankets the Bob
\nShimmering lakes dapple the crags
\nUntil the fall in rocks rounds
\nTumbling down into the valley
\nHalf filled with the pristine waters
\nOf my childhood
\nThe contrails line the Big Sky
\nAs we follow the river down the Divide
\nAnd out
\nFollowing the trails of Lewis and Clark
\nPicking the way through a panhandle
\nPast the lone explosion of lights on the Palouse
\nThen all falls flat and drive for miles
\nSave the wide river
\nCutting a huge crevice
\nOn its meander to the pacific
\nWhite windmills pop up
\nLittle spinning sticks on dry hills
\nCatching the breath of the sleeping giant
\nAnd his pointy tooth north neighbors
\nLooming on the Horizon
\nShooting up in the distance
\nLighting the way in the evening sky
\nWith their crowns of white
\nLooking down at the spectacular sight
\nTerrain so close but impossibly rugged and strange
\nTwo tones to announce
\nTake your seat
\nI pay them no mind
\nMy face is pressed to plastic
\nTracing the lines
\nThe history of my life
\nSeen from the sky
\nOn the approach and descent
\nClearing the Cascades and bending
\nOver the explosion of lights
\nThe darkened fingers of water
\nA ring of green rising round
\nI can smell the rain
