You have a curious way with flights<\/span><\/p>\n

without fail\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a laptop is left behind at security<\/span><\/p>\n

we are too late and\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the flight has to be rescheduled<\/span><\/p>\n

or the time with the tornado<\/span><\/p>\n

that made our detour trip impossible<\/span><\/p>\n

and, somehow, always on the way<\/span><\/p>\n

to visit your family?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\u2019m sorry,<\/span><\/p>\n

you can put your earbuds back in now<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll stop reminding you…<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh! And there was that one time<\/span><\/p>\n

when we were almost sleepless<\/span><\/p>\n

in the Seattle airport and<\/span><\/p>\n

I was two seconds away from a meltdown<\/span><\/p>\n

until a Buddhist monk floated by<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and I felt everything go sideways<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

just for a second<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

as if his peace pulled it all back<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

darning the frayed edges<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

scattering the anxiety<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and the frustration<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

replacing it with the joy of flight<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the peace of weightlessness<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

suddenly<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They announced your name<\/span><\/p>\n

looked at each other wide-eyed<\/span><\/p>\n

we ran down the concourse<\/span><\/p>\n

at the gate, they let us board<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And buckling our safety belts<\/span><\/p>\n

I recall the dense grey clouds<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

by the time we reached altitude<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
