Prompt 15:\u00a0 There are very few poems about air travel, even though there are a lot about driving, train travel, and subway commuting. Your prompt this hour is to write a poem about a plane trip.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Where\u2019s Our<\/em> Plane?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I walked out of the airport gate with Mary,<\/p>\n Stepped onto pavement, no ramp,<\/p>\n no boarding tunnel<\/p>\n To take us to the plane.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Straight ahead the smallest red-and-white plane<\/p>\n I had ever seen perched on the sidewalk,<\/p>\n tiny door open, rickety-looking metal stairs<\/p>\n the only way in. Or out.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thankful not to have to get on that thing,<\/p>\n I asked Mary,<\/p>\n Where\u2019s our<\/em> plane?<\/p>\n A frustrated look, and she gently shoved me forward.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Oh.My.God! White-knuckled flyer on a big bird,<\/p>\n this toy plane scared me even worse.<\/p>\n Smaller than a school bus, one aisle, 40 seats.<\/p>\n Really? We\u2019re flying in this?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I gingerly sat down in the aisle seat on the left,<\/p>\n Mary sat across the aisle, turned on her phone.<\/p>\n Luckily, my seat partner was friendly. But then<\/p>\n the plane started to back up, swing around, and taxi.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I braced myself for crashing on the runway<\/p>\n as we picked up speed for lift off \u2014<\/p>\n but she rose cleanly, like a little bird soaring,<\/p>\n no big drama shudder like a big plane\u2019s lift off.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Breathing again, I released my death grip<\/p>\n on the seat in front of me, and tried for cool<\/p>\n and nonchalant. It\u2019s okay, my seat mate sympathized,<\/p>\n my little sister gets scared, too. But she\u2019s only six.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Beth A.
