1 Hawaiian Punch jug<\/p>\n
Label removed, gift from my great<\/p>\n
aunt used to store pennies she littered,<\/p>\n
a basement hunt for me and three<\/p>\n
cousins, now collecting bedroom dust<\/p>\n
2 aj\u00ed jars<\/p>\n
Small, protruding checkered sides<\/p>\n
that catch the sun, beautiful,<\/p>\n
decorations on the mantle,<\/p>\n
one now contains holy water<\/p>\n
3 applesauce containers<\/p>\n
Kept because of the indents at the side,<\/p>\n
easy to hold, memories of the kids<\/p>\n
who sloppily ate from it, pretty<\/p>\n
pictures of apples and smiles<\/p>\n
5 paper cups<\/p>\n
Large, used to hold tickets<\/p>\n
at arcades, strips still protruding,<\/p>\n
never turned in, dusting, hoping<\/p>\n
to be used for a giant pink dog<\/p>\n
5 take-out salsa containers<\/p>\n
Kept for stirring paint, easier<\/p>\n
than buying brand-new,<\/p>\n
in my basement waiting<\/p>\n
for me to start painting again<\/p>\n
6 water bottles<\/p>\n
Empty, lying on the floor,<\/p>\n
reminding of boys long gone,<\/p>\n
drunk the day they took my heart,<\/p>\n
