they never really know what that is<\/p>\n
and I never really know how to describe it:<\/p>\n
like a computer but not.<\/p>\n
the mess of ink ribbons<\/p>\n
white out<\/p>\n
or starting over to get rid of<\/p>\n
carbon paper smudges on \u201cgood copies\u201d<\/p>\n
of letters<\/p>\n
or papers meant to be the cleanest, clearest version<\/p>\n
of everything I knew.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
not so much, really<\/p>\n
when the daisy wheel letters stuck<\/p>\n
to paper not quite thin enough to be onion skin.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
believe me,<\/p>\n
gratitude runs deep in me<\/p>\n
for word processing.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t know how my fore-writers did it:<\/p>\n
all those pages with ink erasers and carbon paper.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d be in a straight jacket,<\/p>\n
not writing at all.<\/p>\n
