My grandfather\u2019s house didn\u2019t have a telephone,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Loved ones lived on memory and good fortune,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the longest time, distance carried such importance\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That my grandfather was nearly heart broken,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When his house was finally filled, with distant voices<\/span><\/p>\n

I was fascinated with the idea of those who lived so far from home,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was enthralled by the idea of life, outside of <\/span>home<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

If only we had listened to grandfather,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I ran away from home, I didn\u2019t know I was taking home with me\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My mother hugged me goodbye twice but I only looked back once,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I belonged to the distance now, the one my grandfather so revered,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You see, I wanted to get away,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hide in the distance, so I may have an excuse to say,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Talking to you twice a week is enough,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If we talk more we\u2019ll run out of things to talk about,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There was a drought of voices back home,<\/span><\/p>\n
