A wren wakes me up at five with her strident call<\/p>\n
I see she has made a messy nest in my shed<\/p>\n
and she is feeding nestlings in my market basket<\/p>\n
I guess I could use a bag instead-<\/p>\n
Whose place is it anyways?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The monarchs have found the milkweed on the edge of the drive<\/p>\n I need to mow along there but<\/p>\n I see her perfect jewel box eggs on the leaves<\/p>\n I love to see butterflies dancing over the field<\/p>\n I guess I won\u2019t mow there this summer<\/p>\n Whose place is it anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I pull back the tarp to add to the winter\u2019s woodpile<\/p>\n And find the chipmunks\u2019 careful hoard<\/p>\n Imagine the labor of finding all these acorns?<\/p>\n I guess I can start a new woodpile nearby<\/p>\n Whose place is it anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The ground hog has made a hole under the garden fence<\/p>\n She eats all the green beans, kale and brocholi in one night<\/p>\n I block up the hole and follow her trail to the burrow<\/p>\n I see her young creep out to eat clover<\/p>\n I guess they can keep the clover patch<\/p>\n Whose place is it anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A deer has left her spotty fawn under my elderberry bush<\/p>\n I need to fix the hole in the fence there but<\/p>\n I am not sure how they both got in<\/p>\n The foal looks at me with huge watchful eyes<\/p>\n I guess I can put off the fencing for a while<\/p>\n Whose place is this anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I am walking the dog down our woods road<\/p>\n She finds a pile of coyote poop\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I know my neighbors would be out here with a shotgun but<\/p>\n We walk here by day but leave it to them at night\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Whose place is it anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The registry at the courthouse\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n has a walls full of files of deeds<\/p>\n One names our farm and my name is listed there but<\/p>\n Whose place is it anyways?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Bette Low 2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Whose Place is it Anyways?
