If Dad had been alive<\/p>\n
he would not have appreciated us.<\/p>\n
He had hunted enough in his lifetime.<\/p>\n
He knew the scents of wild animals.<\/p>\n
He could smell a feral thing like us<\/p>\n
and would have picked up on us right away.<\/p>\n
He would have been deeply uncomfortable.<\/p>\n
We would not have been invited back.<\/p>\n
And, he would have blamed it on you, all of it on you<\/p>\n
that there was just “something about that guy”<\/p>\n
He would never have allowed himself<\/p>\n
to know that I was The Beast<\/p>\n
that I was the Primordial Monster…<\/p>\n
never would have allowed himself to know<\/p>\n
or even think it.<\/p>\n
If Dad had been alive<\/p>\n
I would have gotten a stern talking to<\/p>\n
and so would you.<\/p>\n
He would have pulled you off to the side<\/p>\n
told you to “bathe more regularly, use some deodorant<\/p>\n
maybe a little jock powder.”<\/p>\n
He was that kind of man. He would have tried to “help ya out there.”<\/p>\n
But, it wouldn’t have made a difference<\/p>\n
regardless of the spray or powder<\/p>\n
shampoo of body wash.<\/p>\n
It wasn’t you. It would never be you.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It couldn’t.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A timid fluffy bunny<\/p>\n
can not take on the scent of a ravenous wolf.<\/p>\n
A frolicking mountain kid<\/p>\n
would never musk like prowling jaguar.<\/p>\n
It is not in their nature, not part of their dna.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is not who you were born to be.<\/p>\n
No teeth. No claws.<\/p>\n
Just a flitting fluffy bunny tail for taunting… taunting…<\/p>\n
But we would have known… we did know.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You can’t not know<\/p>\n
who has the growl<\/p>\n
and who has the soft underbelly.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You can’t not know…<\/p>\n
