Poems, songs about planes usually
\ncome in varietal shades of gone
\npoets and lyricists see escape
\noh, oh big ol’ jet airliner
\ndon’t carry me too far away\u2026<\/p>\n

Even the tortured soul
\nleavin\u2019 on a jet plane who said
\nthey would be coming back\u2026<\/p>\n

I fly to get away only
\nfrom solid ground
\nto the clouds, and above
\nat thirty-thousand feet
\ncoming or going is never my
\nthought process
\ngetting up there, staying up
\nwatching clouds beats
\na Hollywood blockbuster<\/p>\n

Funny thing is, I have never
\nhad the typical flying
\ndreams or
\nfantasies about zooming
\nfrom here-to-there
\nnever wanted to be a pilot
\nnor astronaut
\nbut getting on a plane to
\ntake me somewhere
\nalways does
\nto the same place
\nno matter where or when
\nI am flying
\nI get to go to that place
\nwhere I am above
\nthe clouds <\/p>\n

A friend of mine likes
\nto cloud gaze
\nground up, gazing from
\nwide open plains
\ninterpreting what clouds
\nlook like
\nuncanny in her accuracy
\nsmooth eye for detail
\nI find her pictures of clouds
\ninteresting, but\u2026<\/p>\n

As for me, they don\u2019t need
\nto get all gussied up
\nputting on airs
\nwhen it comes to clouds
\nI\u2019ll take mine in their
\nnatural state
\nwhen I join them as
\nfree-range condensation
\ndew of the imagination<\/p>\n
