I tend to wonder\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At what things really are.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once I asked a friend<\/span><\/p>\n

What she thought cats were<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Really<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With such expressive tails<\/span><\/p>\n

And mollifying vibrations?<\/span><\/p>\n

She rolled her eyes<\/span><\/p>\n

And looked away.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I like to run my hands\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

over the furniture<\/span><\/p>\n

coddle plants\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

and smooth over the rocks<\/span><\/p>\n

as I encounter them<\/span><\/p>\n

briefly asking if they have a story<\/span><\/p>\n

that they\u2019d like to share.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes a convivial stone<\/span><\/p>\n

will propose an adventure.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We will go to the ocean\u2019s edge<\/span><\/p>\n

beaten by the salty air<\/span><\/p>\n

and gaze out to a large rock formation.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the middle, a doorway\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

streaming with amber morning light<\/span><\/p>\n

will open and the rock in my hand<\/span><\/p>\n
