{"id":75844,"date":"2020-06-28T07:48:01","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T11:48:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=75844"},"modified":"2020-06-28T07:48:01","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T11:48:01","slug":"dear-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/dear-god\/","title":{"rendered":"Dear God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Yes I am a believer but in this day and age, it is the hardest thing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I remember as a child,<br \/>\nI would know your word like the phone numbers that belonged to my parents.<br \/>\nWhenever I was in trouble or distraught I had you on speed dial,<br \/>\nBut as time went on,<br \/>\nI guess I got tired of your voicemail,<br \/>\nAnd put the phone down and stopped calling<\/p>\n<p>I remember when I grew up,<br \/>\nYou blessed me with more ages but I repaid you by adding more distance between us.<br \/>\nYou gave me the ability to make my own decisions,<br \/>\nSo please tell me why you gave me this gift if you knew,<br \/>\nI would rarely decide to follow you.<\/p>\n<p>You gave me people to talk to,<br \/>\nBut tell me, Lord, why should I tell a man,<br \/>\nWho has a sinning nature, my sins?<br \/>\nRead the word that has been attributed to you,<br \/>\nBut written by so many people,<br \/>\nHas different interpretations.<br \/>\nSo how do I know who is right and who is wrong?<br \/>\nYou gave me the Holy Spirit to decipher,<br \/>\nBut why does it feel like it&#8217;s always silent?<\/p>\n<p>Tell me how I keep my faith,<br \/>\nWhen the children who you called,<br \/>\nReject you and believe in theories that make you a figment of our imagination.<br \/>\nWhere is the hope in that,<br \/>\nWhen all the vessels are broken and can no longer hold anything but empty promises.<\/p>\n<p>I remember when I lay in bed at night,<br \/>\nAnd wonder where you were when I fell,<br \/>\nRose to the challenge and succeeded.<br \/>\nQuestioning your love for me when all I felt was hate surrounding,<br \/>\nWere you ready to welcome me home when I tried to take my life?<br \/>\nOr would I have hung lifeless?<\/p>\n<p>I will never know the answer,<br \/>\nBut I apologize for trying to praise you and please them,<br \/>\nWalking in the valley of darkness,<br \/>\nBut also trying to keep my light ablaze.<br \/>\nI am sorry for questioning your actions,<br \/>\nBut my ancestors made it so I become curious and search for answers.<br \/>\nI hope you know I am still a believer,<br \/>\nSo I end this note by saying,<br \/>\nAmen<\/p>\n<p>~Baker<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes I am a believer but in this day and age, it is the hardest thing I remember as a child, I would know your word like the phone numbers that belonged to my parents.
